Handmade business – bring out the colors

Having unique items always keeps the customers interested in our offered items. .
If the same item is provided in different colors, it gives a chance for the customers to be able to select their own color of the item which they like the most. .of course this is not always the case but is definitely a good strategy to attract the the customers.  Especially if you know which items of yours is popular. .

Just like these lovely wrist bands done by Knit Me Warm and Cozy. Not only the bands are unique, they are practical, unique, simple and beautifully knitted items, they are made in bright colors. .which make these even more likable. The customers also feel a sense of customized unique product too.

As a consumer myself, I would definitely like something that is unique and will like it more if I can get the same in the color that I want!!

Handmade business- how to stand out?

It’s quite hard and always challenging to really make your mark in handmade business. . I have read and researched regarding this topic. The key points are always
1. Marketing
2. Stand out or uniqueness

Of course, if we are having similar products as the others, why would the customers be interested in our items. ..

Hence having unique products will make your business an highlight. For example have a look at this zibbet shop owned by Handmade Fuzzy.  This person actually sells handmade jewelry just like many jewelry retailers
Yet the jewelry sold in this shop is not the same as you find in giant retailers
.It’s unique, techniques used are so creative and trendy. .not the same type which is a result mass production.

This person has used techniques like beading, crocheting, threads and knotting etc.
The designs are practical and pretty. .
These qualities actually add more value to the items. .thereby to the business itself
Well that’s what I feel.  As a consumer myself,  I would want to have anything that’s pretty, practical and unique.
Sometimes thinking like a consumer, gives me ideas.
Mmm. . Thinking!!!let me see what else I can get….

Red glass and white glass pearl silver toned dangle earrings

Hi,
I found these gorgeous antique silver toned 3 hole spacer beads online and I could not resist from buying them. Though I love them, these spacers were a bit too big for me to make bracelets. That’s when I had to design something out of these beautiful pieces.

I designed these earrings using the wiring technique along with the regular beading technique. Finally the earrings came out stunninig! !

Selling online

HI

Ebay – the best and one of the easiest way to start selling our handmade stuff. It is quite effective .With the recent offer where ebay is offering no fees for listing either auction or Buy it now types of listing , it has never been better

So ,coming to the fact how efficient it is easy to sell on ebay – I do think that there are both positives and negatives when coming to sell on ebay

Positives :

1. Easy to list

 2. Higher exposure to customers online

3 . No need to extra marketing4 . No need to set up an online shop in order to sell

Negatives
1 .low profits

2. fees charged per sale

3. sometimes even listing fee .

The low profit margin makes selling handmade goods a heart break where many of the times ,one has to sell for a loss as he /she is actually bound to sell at any cost once a bid has been place

On the other hand selling in sites like Etsy ,Artfire, zibbet etc , the profit margins are quite good as there is considerable reward paid for the effort and labour put in to make any item.

Again in such sites ,one has be to a upgraded member and pay a monthly fees .set up a shop with banner and SEO quality listings .In addition one has to do extra marketing like blogging , tweets , facebook updates and use of sites like stumbleupon, digg, etc

Well this is a just a bird eye’s view for people like me who are just starting to make art and craft to be their business /profession .

The following are some online shopping sites

Ebay.com
Quicksales.com.au
Bidmate.com.au
Lasoo.com.au
Ebid.net

Since I started researching sites which are best suited for selling handmade the following are some sites which allow people all over the world to set up shops with them

Etsy.com
Artfire.com
Zibbet.com
Zazzle.com

Well there are many more ,but I have just listed a few . Will update you guys with more sites the moment I know

Also feel free to add in more sites

How can I sell my handmade stuff ??? Have you tried this one?

HI all ,

In any business, there are always 2 key aspects-
one is making the item  and the other marketing .. or selling.
Just like most of the guys who make handmade items ,I am also struggling to market and sell.
I did read a lot of blogs, articles ..and explored and researched on this topic .The following ways are the most common approaches that every one suggests
1. Put up your own shop – I mean physical shop

2. Online shop  or website

3. Putting up Craft stalls

In addition these , Some other ways are approaching local gift stores , florists , shops – these guys actually would buy handmade goods.

I mean ,I was actually surprised when I sold my handmade earrings for $45 in total for a bunch of 10 earrings, also $20 for 10 of my cards .According to one of the florist ,even chocolate shops would also be interested in buying some handmade cards!.

I did find this approach quite easy and also quick to sell !

And I did find some success too

Give it a go ! All the best!
